You have survived Orientation Week!
I don't know about you, but I am already overwhelmed with information and behind on my readings ;)
Let me introduce the current team of your Student Association: Shadia (President), Jacqueline (Treasurer), Lauren (Faculty Rep), Astrid (Faculty Rep until Sep 30) and Kauanoe (Faculty Rep).
With the new academic year, we have several open positions: Vice President, Secretary and Faculty Rep (as of Sep 30).
We highly encourage you to join our team and take part in contributing to the student life in VST. If you want to be part of this team or you would like to nominate someone, please send me an email. If you want more information about the role and expectations, you are more than welcome to reach out to any of us and you can read more about it in our bylaws attached in this email.
We want you to feel welcome and to have all the support you need to make your student experience as successful as possible. Going forward you'll receive a monthly email update from us featuring different updates and events (at bottom of the email).
If you haven't logged into CampusBase yet, now is a good time! Think of it like Canvas, but for student life. It's a digital student lounge or student union.
You can head over by clicking here or by going to vstsa.org. One of the many great features is the prayer request form, if there's something you would like us to pray for, fill it out, share as much as you wish, and we'll get a notification to include you in our prayers.
PGWP Update
Daniel Martin, my predecessor, has been successful in mobilizing AMS regarding the ineligibility of VST graduates to receive a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). As you will read in this article that describes Daniel's experience about his own application process, because VST is an affiliate school at UBC, he did not have access to certain services in UBC for assistance. However, as VST president, he brought the issue to AMS, who in return have taken it onto their agenda. I believe this is a crucial issue that I intend to pursue (maintain AMS interest in this and try to raise support from other seminaries at UBC, who are also affiliate schools).
If you have applied for a PGWP previously or intend to apply, please contact me in order to talk more about it so that we can increase awareness about it.
