We are the very first Pilates Club at UBC that aims to improve the physical lives of the students at UBC in a safe, fun, and effective way. Although our club will operate as a general pilates club, we are currently only offering POP Pilates classes. While POP Pilates moves all originate from classical Pilates, the class design, relationship with music, sequencing and reps, differ from reformer classes and traditional mat classes. The fundamentals of breathing, core engagement and powerhouse-based movements are shared, however, the emphasis on moving to the beat of pop music is what makes POP Pilates so unique. Each 55 minute class is supposed to make students feel like it's a dance on the mat, rather than just a typical exercise. Furthermore, this club will provide a positive and supportive community where students can comfortably exercise in. Before entering, students will be asked to provide proof of vaccination, use provided hand sanitizer, and to sign a health screening questionnaire. Masks must be worn at all times. In order to maintain physical distancing of 2m (6ft), students will be admitted on a first-come first-serve basis until we reach reduced room capacity as determined by available space and AMS guidelines. Students will be asked to remain at their mat throughout class.
