About ABC at UBC

The Club

ABC at UBC is a club within UBC’s community where people interested in, or curious about, calligraphy can come together and share the experience of calligraphy as an activity and as an art. The club gives us the opportunity to learn about calligraphy and delve further into its culture. Best of all, the club gives us a space to develop and practice our calligraphy skills, as well as a way to destress.

Our activities are open to people of all skill levels — from people who are complete beginners or just curious, to those who already have years of experience!

Club Activities

  • Practice Sessions

Regular club meet-ups where both members and non-members can come to just do calligraphy.

The sessions are weekly, alternating between Tuesday and Wednesdays.

For those who would like to learn more about calligraphy we have mini activities with themes that changed every week, plus some cool tips and tricks.

    Sessions are free for members.

    We welcome drop-ins!

    For non-members there is a $3 fee*

*You can sign up for membership at the door or beforehand.

    *The fee is non-refundable.

  • Workshops

These are special activities that occur during the semester, like seasonal events based on calligraphy activities performed during that part of the year. There are also themed events and workshops with calligraphy professionals.

Workshops require those who wish to join to RSVP, but if there are space and supplies available we welcome walk-ins.

  • Exhibitions

At the end of each semester, we have the opportunity for those who participated in the practice sessions and workshops to showcase their work. The exhibitions will be open to the wider UBC community.
