Amnesty International is a global movement of more than seven million people who take injustice personally.

We're campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.

OUR ORGANIZATION

How Change Happens

Through detailed research and determined campaigning, we work together as a global movement to help fight abuses of human rights around the world. We bring torturers to justice, change oppressive laws and free people jailed for using their voice. We believe that change is possible through three key elements.

Research

Human rights change starts with the facts. Our experts do accurate, cross-checked research into human rights violations by governments and others worldwide.

Advocacy and Lobbying

We use our analysis to influence and press governments, companies and decision-makers to do the right thing.

Campaigns and Action

Through petitions, letters and protests, campaigners worldwide press for action from the people and institutions who can make change happen.

OUR CHAPTER

As one of the largest official, chapters in Western Canada, our work  mainly involves Campaigns & Action.

Our programming is related to findings and conclusions presented in sources such as the Amnesty Human Rights Reports as well as other respected evidence-based sources. We are an apolitical entity. Our events and campaigns have no political affiliations and developed with consideration to facts and evidence.

We value and prioritize the objective nature of well evidenced, fact-based discourse. Yet there is also much to be gained from sharing and discussing subjective ideas, learning from each other's diverse perspectives and experiences. For this reason our events include discussion components, that serves as an open space for people to collectively explore different angles and viewpoints around a given topic. It is through respectful and constructive sharing of opposing thoughts and opinions, can we find some common ground for the myriad of topics dividing us today and impeding actual progress.

As such, our chapter's activism is focused on raising awareness, reconciling divisive discourse and finding common ground necessary to facilitate change.
