Program Directors and Coaches

Lana Fuenning

Program Director and Head Coach

I have been involved with cheerleading for over 16 years, as both an athlete and coach on a variety of teams. I have had the fortunate experience to attend both Collegiate and Allstars worlds. This is my 3rd year coaching UBC Cheer and my 1st year acting as program director. Outside of cheerleading, I am a recent Physiotherapy graduate from UBC and I work in the hospital. I also am a physiotherapist for Team Canada Cheer. I am so excited to see this program grow and to help nurture athletes through their time at UBC.

Melanie Martens

Program Director and Head Coach

I grew up as a gymnast and in high school I started doing Game Day cheer. I went to Uvic for my undergrad where I spent 5 years with the Vikes Cheer level 7 team (both Coed & All Girl). Some of my highlights include attending UCA camp in the US, competing at Worlds twice, and going undefeated in BC for all 5 years. This experience grew my passion for collegiate cheerleading. During that time I also earned my Bachelor of Science degree. Currently, I am in my 3rd year of coaching UBC Cheer (1st as program director) and am proudly ICU Level 7 certified. Additionally, I am in my final year of post-secondary at the Peter A. Allard School of Law. Being able to coach UBC Cheer and share my love for collegiate cheerleading is an extreme privilege. I am confident there is a bright future for this program and I am thrilled to be a part of the success that is to come! Go T-Birds!

Megan Woerler

Assistant Coach

Cheer has always been a part of my life, starting with 9 seasons at Vancouver All Stars. I also competed two season on UBC Cheer Premier and am excited for my first season coaching the Premier team. My goal for the season is to ensure all athletes are confident with the skills they are putting on the floor and develop the team and the program for success. Outside of cheer, I am a 4th year sociology student and hope to continue my studies at UBC in a Masters program next year.
