Memberships for 2023-2024

Please follow us on Instagram @ubcpotteryclub for sign-up announcements and dates. Sign-ups generally open in September (first Saturday after labor day), early January (the first Saturday), and mid April each year.

Please do not email inquiring about extra spots available during the year. We only take in new members during the three sign-up periods above, and any extra spots are given to people on the waitlist from the most recent sign up period.

2023-24 sign up dates:
 Term 1: September 9th, 12pm (noon)                                                                              Term 2: January 6th, 12pm (noon)                                                                      Summer: April 20th, 12pm (noon)

Sign up happens via a Google Form which will open at precisely 12pm noon on the Saturday of sign ups. We generally accept ~20 new members each new term. The membership form closes on Sunday at 9pm. An email informing applicants if they were offered a spot or not will be sent out by end of day on the following Monday. All members who will be offered a spot must confirm by paying membership fees by the Friday after sign ups at 11:59pm. Please check your spam email if you don't get an email from us!

Form link can be found here! Please use a personal email (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) instead of a UBC or work email, because our emails sometimes get marked as spam with UBC/institutional emails.

To make things fair, we will have two lottery rounds for spots. Let's say we have 20 free spots. We will be running a lottery for 10 spots for all the people who signed up within 5 minutes of the form opening. We will then run a second lottery for another 10 spots for ALL the people who signed up (those who signed up after the first minute and those who didn't get a spot in the first lottery). Basically, if you sign up early you have a higher chance of getting a spot, but you don't have to race to fill out the form once it opens!

If you have received a membership offer, you cannot transfer this offer to anyone else. This is to prevent people from recruiting many others to sign up for them. Duplicate entries will also be removed.

Important note: We are a studio, which means that you are expected to be able to use our space mostly unsupervised. If you get a spot, there is an extensive online orientation you must complete before you will be permitted to use the studio. Like any other workplace safety training, this orientation is paramount to your safety and the safety of other studio members. Please do not sign up if you are unwilling to complete the orientation.

We're so excited to welcome you to our studio! Below are some extra details about terms, AMS members, and fees.

AMS & Non-AMS members of the club:
AMS members are students who pay student fees. We are an AMS affiliated student run club with a mandate to make pottery accessible to students, so we prioritize students. Unfortunately we will not be taking in new community members for the time being as the limited spots allocated for community members are all filled. There are several other clay studios that you can access including 4Cats, Cafe au Clay, and community centres. If you graduated in May, you are still considered an AMS member for the summer term. We will verify student status during the signup process.

Current Membership Fees: $60 per term (AMS), $120 per term (non-AMS)

Terms:
Each term is a four month duration. You can sign up for one term and renew, or sign up for multiple terms so you don't have to renew throughout the year.
 - Term 1: September to December
 - Term 2: January to April
 - Summer: May to August
