Training

Our practices are in person. Athletes are welcome to come to as many or as few workouts as they would like. Read below for more information on the logistics for each sport.

Swimming

Swimming takes place at the UBC Aquatic Centre twice a week. The session is 1 hour long. Swimmers may register to attend once or twice a week. Our practices are led by a swim coach.

You will need a swimsuit, goggles and a swim cap if you like.

Swimmers will need to be pre-registered to participate in swim practices. Please get in touch with us if you would like a spot in our group swims. Space is limited and will be given to swimmers that book a spot first! Email us at ubctriathlon@gmail.com or reach out to an exec to book your spot. Swims require an additional fee that directly covers the cost of lane rental and coaching.

Cycling

Each week there will be a spin workout and a weekend skill clinic or long ride. Riders will typically be split into different ability levels and will focus on developing different types of skills.

Members will be given access to an online sign-up sheet for each outdoor ride and should fill the sign-up sheet at least 1 day in advance. Rides will only be run if there are enough riders. You will need a bike and a helmet for outdoor rides.

Spins will be conducted at the ARC Main Level Studio in the UBC Life Building. They will be led by an instructor. You do not need a bike or helmet for the spins. In order to spin with us, you will need to be pre-registered. Please get in touch with us if you would like a spot in our group spins. Space is limited and will be given to athletes that book a spot first! Email us at ubctriathlon@gmail.com or reach out to an exec to book your spot.

Note: Spins require an additional fee that directly covers the cost of renting the spin studio.

Running

There will be a track workout and another run workout each week. Track workouts take place at the UBC Track and other runs take place on different routes around campus/Vancouver.

Run workouts are always drop-in.

You will need running shoes.

Please note that for Winter 2024, SWIMS and INDOOR SPINS require pre-registration. Rides and runs may require a sign up sheet for planning purposes, but will always have space for athletes. Please plan to arrive at the meeting location early as practices BEGIN at the indicated times.

*Outdoor rides will be posted on a week by week basis as they will not be hosted if weather conditions are deemed unsafe. Sunday is the default but may be adjusted to Saturday due to weather.

Swim sessions are 1 hour long, in booked lanes, with a coach, and there are limited spots. Please note that for Winter 2024, swims require pre-registration. You may register for Monday swims, Wednesday swims, or for both days. Please view the membership page for information on the cost of swims.
