FAQs

Got a burning question?

What are your membership fees?

Our membership fees are currently $5 for AMS Members (if you are a registered UBC student you are an AMS Member) and $7.50 for non-AMS Members.

How do I join?

You can join by hitting the join link on our website or directly through CampusBase. Then, be sure to join our Discord community and introduce yourself! Tell us about your musical interests and what you do at UBC, and you're in! Through our Discord, you'll be able to keep up with events and jam sessions and get to know other Sargam members.

Where and when do you meet?

In normal years, we schedule jam sessions and practice sessions based on member availability. A form will be sent out asking members to fill in their preferred timeslots soon. These sessions are usually held in the music rooms of UBC Student Residences, as they provide a quiet space to practice and come with a piano.

I don't have a lot of training in Indian Classical music. Can I still join?

Yes! We welcome people of all backgrounds and skill levels. Experience is an asset but it's not required to join the club.

We are a fun community of people who enjoy experimenting with different genres of music and we love to help others improve their skills and discover new things!

Do you have any concerts or performances?

Sargam usually hosts an annual concert entitled "Raagini", where members showcase the pieces they have learned and perfected in a wonderful show open to the public. This is not a concert to be missed! We also perform at various events for other clubs and organizations throughout the year.

How do I communicate with other club members?

Going forward, we will be using Discord as the primary method of communication and we encourage you to join our Discord server.

We will also send out emails for important announcements so that people can be aware of major club events and happenings.
