Our mission is to promote Indian Classical/Fusion music within the Greater Vancouver area and let students showcase their talent at various events throughout the year. Our goal is to use Sargam as a platform to present the genre of Indian Classical music to individuals of various musical backgrounds and expand on the genre by fusing together various musical styles. We also encourage members to share their talents with others through frequent jam sessions so everyone can benefit from our members' wealth of knowledge.

By becoming a member you are able to be a part of club practices and perform at club events or events to which Sargam UBC receives invites. Members are also allowed to purchase merchandise, although this is dependent on interest.

The Advocacy Office was established in 1999 to provide information and support to students facing the bureaucratic challenges and disciplinary committees of UBC. The office strives to provide students with information about UBCÔÇÖs policies and procedures when they are in a formal or informal conflict with the University. Although the office does not provide legal advice, the office offers confidential and effective support to any undergraduate and graduate student at UBC in regards to the disputes outlined below.
ÔÇó Non Academic Misconduct ÔÇô Non Academic Misconduct may include vandalism of University property, harassing others individuals, and stealing on Campus Grounds. We can also assist and advocate for the rights of students accused or complaining of sexual assault and sexual misconduct.
ÔÇó Academic Misconduct ÔÇô Academic Misconduct may include engaging or attempting to engage in cheating, plagiarism, falsifying information, etc.
ÔÇó Academic Standing ÔÇô Academic Standing refers to issues such as failing a grade or promotion to next level of studies.
ÔÇó Housing Appeals ÔÇô Housing incidents that relate to the UBC Resident Contract, subletting, etc.

Our club intends to provide career development opportunities and engagement to students interested in national security and intelligence issues through research, dissemination, and discussion in collaboration with the Canadian Association for Security and Intelligence Studies (CASIS) Vancouver. To echo what the mission of the AMS is: to improve the quality of the educational, social, and personal lives of the students of UBC.

We do so by bringing various kinds of Jewish programming to UBC whether it be an educational event where we build menorahs for Chanukah or social events where we bring Kosher food to campus for a kosher dinner which attract all types of students.

We also focus on the educational aspect of Judaism where we provide a plethora of classes on Jewish theology, history & its customs.

On a personal level, being here already for almost 4 years, we have come across over hundreds of students which we developed a personal relationship with and through the Chabad student club that we had in the past, and we can safely say that every time we interacted with previous members or students at any AMS events, we always had the best effect on them and they fully appreciated whatever we had to offer.

We hope to continue to to help the AMS strive to be a place where every student can truly feel like they belong on a social, educational and personal level.

The AMS Children's Literature Student Association builds a departmental community for student's in the Children's Literature Program at UBC. The Master of Arts in Children's Literature (MACL) Program at UBC is a unique, multidisciplinary graduate program which explores all facets of children'sliterature from its creation to its critical analysis and pedagogical approaches to the literature in interaction with children in schools, homes, and libraries. The program spans two faculties and four academic units including Creative Writing, English, Language and Literacy Education, and the iSchool (Library, Archival and Information Studies). Due to our program's multidisciplinary nature, students in the program do not fit into one pre-existing student association at UBC. The AMS Children's Literature Student Association allows students better access to AMS services in addition to creating a community of students within a program which is stretch across various departments.

interest towards Egyptian history, Coptic culture and Christian faith.

The Data Science Club’s mission is to provide students with an opportunity to learn about data science algorithms and methodologies by applying knowledge and designing systems to solve specific problems. The club would focus primarily on building team based projects, each of which would take place over the course of one or two semesters. Each project would be composed of project lead(s) and other members to carry out the development. Project leads are experienced students who are able to mentor students, guide the design process, and provide support to newer members. An example of these projects would be building software able to detect human poses in video feeds using machine learning techniques. In addition to projects, members of the club would form small teams and enter data science competitions such Google’s Landmark Retrieval Competition. To further promote learning, we plan to host technical workshops for members and inform them about upcoming conferences and meetups. We also plan to host panels and Q&A sessions with people in the industry. By providing these avenues of learning about data science for students, we plan to improve the educational lives of students and prepare them for positions in academia or in industry.

We are the very first Pilates Club at UBC that aims to improve the physical lives of the students at UBC in a safe, fun, and effective way. Although our club will operate as a general pilates club, we are currently only offering POP Pilates classes. While POP Pilates moves all originate from classical Pilates, the class design, relationship with music, sequencing and reps, differ from reformer classes and traditional mat classes. The fundamentals of breathing, core engagement and powerhouse-based movements are shared, however, the emphasis on moving to the beat of pop music is what makes POP Pilates so unique. Each 55 minute class is supposed to make students feel like it's a dance on the mat, rather than just a typical exercise. Furthermore, this club will provide a positive and supportive community where students can comfortably exercise in.

In light of COVID-19, the UBC Pilates Club is implementing guidelines to keep our classes safe. Before entering, students will be asked to provide proof of vaccination, use provided hand sanitizer, and to sign a health screening questionnaire. Masks must be worn at all times. In order to maintain physical distancing of 2m (6ft), students will be admitted on a first-come first-serve basis until we reach reduced room capacity as determined by available space and AMS guidelines. Students will be asked to remain at their mat throughout class.

The AMS Society at UBC does not contain a club that raises awareness of scoliosis, a condition that causes a curvature of the spine. Scoliosis is prevalent worldwide, can negatively affect the quality of one's life and currently has no known cause. By raising awareness of what scoliosis is and emphasizing the importance of back posture and care, the AMS Scoliosis Outreach and Awareness Club will cultivate unity amongst those students passionate about making a difference for this cause. The main purpose of the club will be to spread scoliosis awareness to the UBC student body and fundraise money to support ongoing scoliosis research in hopes of finding a cause. We will educate both present and future UBC students in how they can support this and other scoliosis campaigns. The AMS Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) is located on the unceded, traditional, ancestral, and occupied territories of the h╔Ön╠ôq╠ô╔Ömin╠ô╔Öm╠ô (Halkomelem) speaking x╩Àm╔Ö╬©k╩À╔Öy╠ô╔Öm (Musqueam) nation.
We recognize the inherent connections between colonialism and all forms of violence. Recognizing the violence of ongoing colonization and engaging in decolonial actions is critical to our work as these lands were taken without consent from Indigenous peoples. Further, we recognize one of the ongoing effects of colonization being the disproportionate rate at which Indigenous peoples, particularly women and trans people, face sexualized and racialized violence. Sexualized violence was used, and continues to be used, as a weapon of colonization, and we want to actively and continuously be working to mitigate the harms of colonization in our work.

Since 2002 the SASC has been committed to the education, support, and empowerment of people of all genders who are survivors of sexualized violence as well as their friends and family. We serve UBC students, staff, faculty, and people with a connection to the UBC campus through various resources and services.

AMS members told us loud and clear that having a sustainable student building was important to them, so we made it our priority to build a LEED Platinum-certified building. This, rather ennobling certificate, is an international stamp of excellence in energy and resource-efficient buildings, putting The Nest high up in the ranks of green buildings in North America. Designing the building to have minimal impact on the environment became the solid foundation for us to run a green society and advocate for a greener campus community. From our food and beverage operations to all the initiatives, projects and funds initiated and administered by the AMS Sustainability office, we are always striving to make measurable reductions in our environmental footprint. That's why we implemented a waste recycling program, introduced the Sustainability Projects Fund (SPF), purchase eco-friendly products, use local suppliers where possible, eliminated plastic straws in many of our food outlets, and continue to look for ways to reduce the use of individual-use containers, even recyclable ones.

The BCLA is a BC-based professional organization that advocates for libraries, offers professional development opportunities and other support to library workers, and advocates for information and resource access for the wider community (https://bclaconnect.ca/). The purpose of the student chapter of the BCLA at UBC is to give graduate students at UBCÔÇÖs iSchool (School of Library, Archival and Information Studies) the opportunity to connect with working professionals, and to learn more about the library profession in British Columbia. The chapter gives members the opportunity to start getting involved in the professional community before graduation. The club works toward these goals by inviting library workers in BC to speak to students at UBC, as well as facilitating library students' involvement in BCLA-related events and initiatives, such as conferences and publications. BCLA Student Chapter members act as liaisons between the wider BCLA and the wider iSchool student community, communicating with professionals and students in person, at interest group meetings, and via email.
